Gummy Bear Breast Implants

There has been an increasing amount of interest in Cohesive Gel Breast Implants or more commonly known as Gummy Bear Breast Implants but they are not freely available in the United States. The Cohesive Gel Breast Implants have not been approved by the FDA for general use and are currently undergoing clinical trials. The companies conducting these trials are Allergan, Mentorcorp and Sientra. So what are the differences between the types of implants?

Saline and Silicone Breast Implants

The most common breast implants currently available are saline and silicone. Saline breast implants have a silicone shell with a small valve allowing the breast implants to be filled during surgery; the saline liquid is actually sterile salt water. Silicone breast implants also have a silicone shell but are manufactured without a valve. The silicone is a gel like substance which has a similar fluidity to treacle. A second generation of silicone implants have now been manufactured which have a reduced fluidity, a consistency more like a jelly, which if the breast implant does rupture or leaks the silicone stays in place and does not disperse around the body.

Gummy Bear Breast Implants

The Gummy Bear Breast Implants have a more reduced fluidity than the silicone breast implants and are more akin to a hardened gel; hence the name gummy bear. It is possible to cut the implant in half without the contents dispersing. The advantages Gummy Bear Breast Implants give over saline and silicone implants is the Gummy Bear Implants are firmer and will retain shape. This is a major advantage over the saline implant as there is no risk of the implant folding or the edges losing shape.

There are some disadvantages with the Gummy Bear Breast Implants the most noticeable, in my opinion, is the increased firmness of the breasts as the implants are more solid the breasts may lose there natural feel. Saline or silicone implants can be inserted through a periareolar incision around the dark outer area of the nipple which produces minimal scarring. Gummy Bear Breast Implants can only be inserted through an inframammary fold incision under each breast at the point where the breast meets the chest. An inframammary fold incision means the actual scar in more visible.

As previously stated if you are interested in the Gummy Bear Breast Implants then they are only available through surgeons taking part in the company trials and are not FDA approved. Before making any decisions on breast enhancing surgery please evaluate all options as there are several natural breast enhancing methods available and as with Triactol are also clinically proven to work. The natural breast enhancing methods offer a considerable lower cost and, more importantly, a greatly reduced risk.
