The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning with regards to silicon breast implants. The FDA has raised concerns that silicon breast implants require replacement every 10 years; the longer the original breast implants remain in the body the greater the risk of disease, leakage and rupturing.
What most women do not realize or fail to consider before undergoing breast implant surgery is the requirement for ongoing maintenance related to corrective surgery and implant replacement after the initial breast implant surgery.
While leakage of the silicone breast implant can also lead to Siliconomas the FDA report also shows a link to the development of a rare form of cancer, anaplastic large-cell lymphoma, which affects approximately 3000 Americans a year.
While women may contemplate using saline breast implants instead of silicon; saline a salt water solution is more prone to folding and rupturing and does not give the same breast feel as silicon implants.
Hopefully the FDA will also look into the instances of Siliconomas as a result of leaking implants to prevent further risks to the long term health of patients who have undergone breast implant surgery.
There are other natural alternatives to breast implants which offer a safer alternative to surgery although some of the natural herbs used in these products also have side effects. Before selecting a particular breast enhancement method it would be worth while identifying the reasons why you would like enhanced breasts; with surgery costing around US$3000 ongoing maintenance costs can soon overstretch your budget.
